Sippy cup time

Nina has started using a sippy cup since all our attempts of getting her on a bottle have failed! Here she is...she still can't drink a whole lot out of it but is starting to pick it up and take little sips. Most of the time she just gnaws and bites the spout with a mean face, it's funny to watch!

Austin - Memorial Day weekend

We had a great time in Austin visiting my brother and his family. Nina got to play with her cousin Malaya who is 14 months...here's a great shot of the two pretty little ladies at Cracker Barrell:
After a long day, they both fell asleep in the car:

Nina with my sister in law, Nikki and Mom, Malaya and Dad hanging out at the house

We met up with Jeremiah's sister, Deanna and met her husband Jerry, and her two kids Evan and Autumn. We went to a delicious Mexican place called Guerros.

Here's Evan kissing Nina.

And Autumn - can you believe this little one can read and used the word effervescent! what a genius! We also met up with my Aunt, Tenet and her family. We went out to Hula Hut for Froi and Nikki's birthday.A trip to Austin wouldn't be complete without a stop at HEB!! the best grocery megastore out there!! LOL! They have EVERYTHING... I had a mani/pedi done here!

Froi and my beautiful neice, Malaya.

We had a great time. It was nice to relax and hang out with my brother and family. It was awesome to see Malaya and Nina interact. Nina would just sit and watch every move Malaya made. I actually think it was great for her. She started rolling over repeatedly at their house and I'm convinced it is from watching her older cousin....check out this video!

Austin Bound

We flew to Austin for Memorial Day weekend last Wednesday to visit my brother and his family. It was Nina's first flight and I was worried but she did great! Of course, it helped that her Lolo and Lola were with us. We flew JetBlue and big surprise, she loved the TV's at each seat! She did great, she ate on the runway and was asleep by the time we took off. She slept for about an hour. I was worried her ears would be clogged but she seemed to be fine and enjoyed playing with her grandparents once she woke up. It was perfect!

Here's a cute video of her playing with what used to be one of her favorite toys!! LOL!

Happy half year birthday Nina!

It's so hard to believe Nina is already 6 months old today! She is getting so big so fast, it's hard to remember the days when she was a little peanut at 4 pounds when we took her home from the hospital. Now, according to our home scale, she is a whopping 17 pounds. We'll get the actual weight and height this Friday at her Dr's appointment. This has been an exciting month. Nina's newest development is being able to sit up on her own. She likes to sit and play with her toys. She hasn't started to crawl but kicks her legs around but the front part of her body stays on the ground so she kinda scoots around in circles.

Nina is enjoying her solid foods and has tasted rice cereal, green beans, peas, carrots and sweet potatoes. She will start the sweet stuff this week - pears, bananas and apples. She is a great eater and even gets mad if you don't feed her fast enough and starts screaming or grunting. After a big bite she swallows and goes, mmmmm. haha - who does she get that from?

Nina also is getting great at walking when you hold her hands. She takes steps with one foot in front of the other and pulls herself up if you hold her hands just a little. She seems to love standing or sitting and hates to be on her back now. She also finally rolled over. She doesn't do it much, she still hates being on her belly. But now she sleeps on her belly at night and during naps. We also moved her from co-sleeping in our bed to the crib now all by herself! It took about 2 weeks - well, more like it took mommy two weeks to adjust (constantly checking if she's still breathing every once and a while and we slept in the same room as her crib with the monitor on - haha but will sleep in our room now). She sleeps from 9 to 9 in the morning, waking up twice for feeding, but goes right back to sleep.

She is definitely more vocal and has recently started screaming at the top of her lungs. At first she just did it at home but now she does it in public, in the grocery store or target - it's so loud and a little embarassing but I love it. I remember when she wouldn't even cry and now she screeches like a teradactyl! She sounds like a dinosaur - it's funny! She also started this whine when she wants a toy and can't reach it or wants attention. She's definitely learning how to get what she wants! :) It's also very easy to make her laugh these days - it's a lot of fun to play with her when she's in the giggling mood. She's ticklish on her left thigh and ribcage.
We've also started trying to ween her to a bottle since I'll be going back to work soon. So far, after 2 weeks, 5 different types of bottles, nipples, etc...we've had no luck! I hope she gets used to it soon or we'll have a problem! Some suggest a sippy cup so we might try that.

Nina's grown so much in the last 6 months, I can't wait to see what is next in the coming months. She has grown into such a cute, cuddly, happy baby and we love every minute with her. Her smile just lights up our lives!

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!

My first Mother's Day was great. We all went to Texas de Brazil (Mother's eat for free today!) and had a gluttonous meal - what else is new? haha I am in a food coma as I type this! I got cards and planters for our balcony from Nina, Frankie and Jeremiah and an orchid and roses from my parents. It feels great to be a mom...I love every minute of my new job. :)

Nina picked up the car for us on our way out!

Surprise from NY

Yesterday, my sis and her new boyfriend Theo surprised my mom and I with a visit for Mother's Day weekend! I was so shocked - it was awesome! Friday night we went to a local Italian restaurant, Matteo's...delicious!

Nina and her Tita Rissa

While we had our pasta, Nina had sweet potatoes for the first time and LOVED it! So far, she loves everything she's tried - peas, sweet potatoes and carrots.

After dinner, coldstone!
The next day, we hung out at the pool - Nina of course, loved every minute in her float...her legs were kickin'!

Sitting up

Look who can sit up now! She can pretty much sit and play with her toys. She is really good at balancing from side to side and forward but when she leans back, she falls. Our baby girl is growing so fast!
